Are lying to yourself?

Think about the last time you said “should” to yourself.

Do you remember what happened? That’s right … nothing! That’s because should it a self-abuse tactic design to try and bully ourselves into action.

Now, what if instead, we caught ourselves and asked ourselves some questions like:

  • Why do I feel this thing is important?
  • What aspect of it am I resisting?
  • Could I achieve the same goal with a different approach?

For example: I “should” go to the gym.

But I don’t want to! (said with that internal temper tantrum whine)

Well … What part of the exercise is making you say “should” .. which aspects do you love? which do you hate? and what is a small step in that direction you want?

For example .. I should go to the gym .. why? it’s good to move my body .. can I achieve this another way? .. yes .. I can walk in the sun in fresh air … now that I want to do!

How about: I “should” update my WordPress website.

(same internal whine)

Well … What part of the idea of updating your website is making you say “should” … Is it because you have no idea how to make edits on your site? Or is it, more likely, that your site is no longer doing your business justice. It probably no longer reflects you, your brand or your vision.

What if instead, you reached out for help? Found someone who could guide you through the process or maybe even just make it happen. Would that change things? How could you show up and serve with a new site? It’s worth considering.

So I ask you … in what aspect of your life or business are you stuck in should land?

Give it some thought and let me know.
